Clouds

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

Many people like to watch the clouds in the sky and try to imput them specific formats. They say some clouds look like animals, others like objects, and others even like human beings. They also say that this used to be one of their favourite passtimes during their childhood. It’s never been one of mine though. Not that I don’t like this kind of play. It’s funny and may come in when you’re bored. It’s just that I’ve never had this habit.

Anyway

I’m pretty sure that during my English course I learned a phrase that stood for “anyway”. But I totally forgot what it was, so I keep on using “anyway” in many sentences. I think that phrase started with “all”. Not sure though. If I was sure, I wouldn’t use “anyway” this much, of course.

And

Continuing the “words I often use” series, now it’s time to write about “and”. My main problem is that I tend to begin several sentences with an “and” . In Portuguese it’s acceptable in coloquial language. I don’t know if this applies to English or not. Anyway, I have to admit that it’s quite boring to read a text full of “ands”, unless the author has a specific intention.

But

The other day I wrote about my addiction to the word “well”. Well… *grins* here’s another addiction of mine: “but”. You’ll see a lot of “buts” in my texts. And they became even more frequent after an email I got from a friend: she told me I was misusing, or at least misplacing the word “however”, which I used as a substitute for “but”.

Well, well

“Well” is a word that I often use in the beginning of my sentences. It’s an addiction of mine. I don’t know whether it looks fine or not for English readers, but I can say that it’s largely used in my country (in its Portuguese version, of course). Sometimes I think I should control myself and cut some “wells” out of my sentences, but… well… it’s so hard. (And this attempt of a joke was so lame.)

New site version

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

Welcome to the brand new a1-fan-fun! Now the site has a new structure (thanks to WordPress) and a new mission: instead of a directory, it’s going to be my personal blog. I mean, one of them, for I plan to start others. Wait for several random posts.
