I have had a lot of luck getting traffic with Stumbleupon, but most of it seems to go in one page and out the same, just as quickly as they came.
Is this your experience or have you had active visitors from Stumbleupon?

I had thought about that possibility too, but I didn’t mention it because… well, if I mentioned every single possibility that occurred to me, my readers wouldn’t have much left to say. I don’t think you’re being naive. Just like you, I expect my posts to stand out on their own in case they’re good. And I never request social media votes either. Maybe we both should change our behaviour, maybe not.

Although I try to believe in the goodwill of others (and I must point out that many people have helped me spontaneously), I don’t count too much on it. I’ve had a large share of disappointments inside and outside the blogosphere, so it seems I’ve become slightly pessimistic. Perhaps I shouldn’t have. Perhaps…

Your readership has been increasing not only because you’re nice to others, but also because you’ve been improving your content’s quality. Don’t forget it!

OMG, I don’t obsessively check my stats so I didn’t know! Duh! Thank you so much!

I think it’s #4. We are in the same social circles and as you might have noticed, I don’t ask for social media help. Not that I think there’s anything wrong with it, but I do believe that if it’s a good piece, it should stand on it’s own.

I think I’m being naive so I need to work on this.

Though I don’t ask for help, I do keep myself visible by supporting others by commenting and stumbling others. I strongly believe in the goodwill of others and karma. And so far, by being “nice”, it has worked for me and I have increased readership “au naturel”.

However, I do know that to be truly successful and to maximize my efforts, I need to ask for help.

So thanks again for your help.
